Unexpected Rhetoric

Unexpected Rhetoric is a student poster exhibition that I had the opportunity to collaborate on. The exhibit highlighted student posters regarding the 2016 election cycle. Students were randomly assigned either Hillary Clinton’s DNC acceptance speech or Donald Trump’s RNC acceptance speech. In addition to the exhibition design, my own posters were highlighted in the exhibit. Having been assigned Donald Trump’s speech, I chose to shine a light on his pessimistic views of the United States by showcasing how many times he used negative words in his speech. My first poster blacks out everything except for negative speech; creating a system to visually discern his message. My second poster takes the idea further by showcasing every single negative word he used and then repeats it for the number of times he used that in his speech.
